Inspiring Innovation and Creativity through Business Systems

Ok, I admit: "I am a big fan of systems, It's all about Systems." It could just be the Mechanical Engineer and Business Analyst coming out in me, but it goes much deeper than that. It is definitely grounded in my recent experiences with systems.

We are surrounded by systems, and our lives revolve around them and rely on them working infallibly. The cars (or motorbikes) we drive, the computers we use and the human bodies we live in, are all brilliantly refined and intricate systems that we use everyday. We expect them to work predictably and consistently every time we use them.

Imagine your business running as smoothly and consistently as the other systems that you rely on in your life! Imagine people having a consistently outstanding and exceptional experience, each and every time they come into contact with your Business.

Surely it would result in improvements to your bottom line, not to mention the impact that it would have on your life, and that of your employees, suppliers, customers, lenders and investors.

Every process in your business, even creative processes, have a specific pattern that can be observed, improved on then developed into a business system. You may view systems as having the potential to stifle the creativity of your people, but the effect of using a well developed system is quite the opposite (especially for creative processes).

Well developed Business Systems have the effect

of inspiring Innovation Creativity

and Passion.

This very article that you are reading is an example of a creative process that uses business systems to ensure that it is consistently produced. The steps required to research, write then release this article are all tasks in a well developed business system. The system is scheduled and reminds me that it is time to write another article. The tasks are laid out in order and contain the specific details for what is required. I follow the tasks, concentrating my energy on the most important part, the creative output of the articles contents.

The system frees me from having to remember or reinvent the article writing process and ensures that I complete the process consistently as scheduled with the most time devoted to the creative process.

The real value of business systems comes after they have been developed and refined. At this point you can either continue to operate the business system as is, assign the tasks to other people in your business or outsource the work. The work that needs to be done in your business will continue to be completed as you have specified in your business systems. The managers in your business can then monitor the results of the system ensuring that the work is being completed on time with the required quality and consistency. You can enjoy the extra free time that well developed business systems will give you, Isn?t this the very reason that you started your businesses in the first place? www.BusinessSystemsManager.com

A Look at Popular Shrink Wrap Systems

Shrink wrapping items protects them during transport, but requires many pieces of equipment. To shrink wrap any small item, a sealing wand, film dispenser with film, heat gun or tunnel are needed. Shrink wrap systems simplify the process.

For the home or small business, small shrink systems are available to frame artwork or to package small items. These cost between $300 and $500 and provide all equipment needed for shrink wrapping small items. Consider buying a straight bar sealer or an L-bar sealer.  Small shrink wrap systems can be used on a tabletop and should include a durable sealing pad. Look for a system that is portable, can accommodate different sizes and types of film, and can heat up quickly.  When shrink-wrapping artwork or photographs, you should look for acid-free or archival-quality shrink wrap film. Not all acid-free films are archival quality.  Avoid storing art in shrink wrap for long periods of time.

For businesses that must shrink wrap hundreds of items, or large or irregular items, larger shrink wrap systems are more practical. Sleeve shrink wrappers can handle differently shaped packages, continuous band sealers form a tight seal around many objects quickly, and mail bagging systems can order and pack newspapers, boxes, or other items for shipment quickly.  Manual sealers typically cost around $7,000 and automatic systems around $36,000.  For added protection, vacuum sealers can remove the air from packages before sealing.  Continuous band sealers are useful for containing easily spilled items.  To complete a large shrink wrap system, pair the sealer with an automatic heater that moves the items along a conveyor belt to heat and shrink the film automatically.  Shrink wrap heat tunnels cost between $2,000 and $16,000.

Shrink wrap systems make shipping CDs, DVDs, books, newspapers, artwork, packages, or crates of product simpler and cleaner, and are sold online by retailers and wholesalers.

A Look at DVD Shrink Wrap Systems

Shrink wrap machines use plastics to protect items from moisture and dirt during storage or transport. The plastic film is wrapped around the item and then the film is heated. It shrinks and conforms to the shape of the item, forming a barrier between the product and outside hazards.

Shrink wrap systems may be small and manually operated for the home business, or large-scale automated machines used by shipping companies. Automatic machines can process more items and hour than their smaller counterparts.

DVDs can be easily shrink wrapped for a professional look that protects the DVD from the environment.  Machines designed to shrink wrap DVDs work more efficiently than generic hand-held shrink wrapping systems. Some machines shrink wrap only DVDs; others can shrink wrap both DVDs and CDs. Machines specifically designed for DVDs are typically cheaper than dual systems, and can be purchased for under $5,000.

To shrink wrap a DVD with a shrink wrap machine, place a precut plastic cover on the machine's platform, and then place the DVD on top of the plastic. Close the machine's cover to heat seal the DVD. The sealing temperature is electronically controlled by the machine. These semi-automatic machines can shrink wrap about 200 DVDs an hour. Automated machines work twice as fast, shrink wrapping about 400 DVDs an hour.

More expensive, fully automatic machines can shrink wrap about 55 CDs or DVDs a minute, or about 3000 an hour. These machines cost about $16,000, but can also handle films other than plastic. Paper or cardboard could also be used, for example. Automated high throughput machines are portable and can sit on tables, taking up less space than floor-bound machines, but the table-top machines can shrink wrap DVDs and a comparable rate.

Several online stores sell all kinds of DVD shrink wrap systems at wholesale prices. These Web sites sell both the machines and the films need to shrink wrap DVDs.  There you will find everything you need to package DVDS with a professional look.
